I came across two more useful resources today. The first is an online image editor, the second is a color palette generator.

Designer Pet Peeves

It’s time to blow off a little steam…
I love receiving customer provided art as a pdf or an eps. However, what I hate is when I request the artwork to be vector, and I receive a pdf (or eps) with a bitmap saved inside! I once tried to convey this frustration to my wife. I came up with this comparison.
“I went to McDonald’s & ordered a chicken sandwich. Unfortunately they brought out a hamburger. I explained that this is not what I asked for, and they quickly returned with a chicken sandwich on the tray. I sat down to enjoy. But when I opened the chicken sandwich wrapper, what do I find? The same hamburger has been placed inside the chicken sandwich wrapper!”
You see, the wrapper represents the file type, the chicken is vector information, and the hamburger is raster information.

Vunky Seach & GiniPic
by Spike on Feb.24, 2009, under Design
Found two cool sites for designers today. Vunky Search and GiniPic. Vunky is a Photoshop Tutorial Browser. GiniPic is a downloadable search engine that searches sites like flickr, photobucket, deviantart, facebook, as well as images on your computer simultaneously. If you get a chance to check them out let me know what you think.

Another great resource for designers. Font picker is free for Mac, PC, and Linux. You can also use it directly from the website. Simply type the text you want to proof, then X out or check off fonts to reduce the list till you narrow down your options to the best choice for your project. Give it a try, let me know what you think.

This looks like an awesome resource. Even if it’s not that useful, it could still be a really fun exercise for designers.

Wow! I’m a party animal… After sitting in front of my computer at work all day, I come home and spend Friday night… in front of my computer! But hey, now I have more images in my gallery, and some cool new features on the rest of the site.
Spike is back!
by Spike on Jan.07, 2009, under Design, Site
After changing hosts, I decided it was time for a long over due site revamp. I’ve completely thrown out everything from the old site & will be periodically rebuilding it from scratch. So check back periodically, or add me to your rss reader.
